Because we can’t perceive everything around us at once, we learn to filter out what’s less relevant to us and see the world through “reality tunnels”—fragmented renderings of the total reality.
In this newsletter, I explore the invisible influences on our reality tunnels and redefine popular topics outside their usual lenses. I’m especially interested in the way societal ideas about health & illness alter our views of ourselves, but I also write about a range of different social issues and psychological phenomena. My past posts have focused on topics like the impact of medical sexism on female patients' perceptions of their own conditions, ways car dependence reshapes our relationships to each other, and the problem with seeing food allergies as a lifestyle choice.
